10 Rainy Day/Indoor Activities for Littles

If your little one(s) are anything like mine, they get bored and feel cooped up on rainy days when we can’t be outside playing. Here are a few ideas that can keep them occupied on those indoor days.

1. Scavenger Hunt

Hide things around the house and have your little one find them! We personally use Easter eggs because my son likes them, but you can use anything. I’ll put his little cars & other small toys inside with a few special eggs that have a special surprise (I use candy). I hide them around the house and let him search for them and he has a ball!

You can also do a scavenger hunt by having your kids find something blue, something yummy, something smooth, ect.

2. Play Dough

This is a simple one, but a great way to keep little hands busy. I also use this for when my son needs to let out some aggression because he can squeeze and pound the play dough.

3. Make a Blanket Fort

It’s always fun to get blankets together and make a fort! Once your fort is made you can read books, play with toys, or do other fun activities inside.

4. Gallon Ziplock Painting

Put a few dabs of paint on a piece of paper and put the paper into the gallon bag and seal it. Your little one can then push the paint around through the bag for mess free painting fun!

5. Clean the House

Make it a game and have your little ones help you with chores around the house! My son loves helping me with laundry and cleaning the floors. Find little ways for them to help out and make it fun!

6. Make Up a New Game

Give each number an action (If you roll a 1 you have to jump up and down) and roll the dice. This is a great game for kids that are learning their numbers and can also get them moving too!

7. Dance Party

This is as simple as it sounds! Turn on some music and dance!

8. Alphabet Hunt

Write letters A-Z on flashcards and hide them around the house. Have your child find each letter and identify it. This is a great game for littles that are learning their letters!

9. Activity Stations

Make a few different stations around your house and designate a movement to each one. The first station could be 10 jumping jacks, the next 15 toe touches, ect. Time them and see how fast they can complete all the stations.

10. The Floor is Lava

Pretend that the floor is lava and lay out blankets, pillows, ect, and you can only walk on anything other than the floor.

If you’re wanting/able to leave the house here are a few ideas of places you can go on a rainy day:

  1. The local library
  2. Aquarium
  3. Indoor playground
  4. Local museums
  5. Walk around the mall
