Before I dive into what I want to say, I want to mention a few things.
I’m a fitness coach for Beachbody. For those of you who don’t know what that is, Beachbody is a company that puts out workout programs you can stream and do at home. They also have a line of superfood shakes, pre-workout, bars, and a bunch of other supplements and products.
That being said, I do purchase things. I pay to stream the workouts. I buy the pre-workout and superfood shakes. I have also purchased equipment like resistance loops, sliders, blender bottles, cute workout clothes I probably didn’t need, the list goes on.
My point here today is not to tell you that you shouldn’t purchase anything health or fitness related. My point is, you don’t NEED to purchase anything. And any company or person that tells you that you need a specific product to be successful is lying to you and most likely just trying to take your money.
I’ve fallen into the trap. The trap of feeling like if I had that one thing I’d be more successful in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. I’ve seen health products being promoted by super fit girls and thought to myself “well I’m going to need that product if I’m going to look like her and feel great about myself like her.” WRONG. SO WRONG.
I can also remember specific times where I said “If I buy this cute workout outfit it’ll make me want to workout more.” And honestly, that could be true. It may be a good incentive for me to get up and workout. (Spoiler, it didn’t). But what’s really concerning, is the thought process behind that. It’s the thought that you need a product to motivate you.
I’m here to tell you right here, right now, that external motivators only get you so far. They might get you going at first and they may help you a little along the way. But what’s going to keep you going long term and turn this into a sustainable lifestyle is YOU. It’s your desire for change, it’s your desire to want more for your life. It’s not the outfit you wear or the shake you drink. Those things might be tools for you to become successful, but it’s not what makes you successful. YOU make you successful. YOU put in the work day in and day out to change habits and form new ones. YOU have to be consistent. Not the equipment, not the pre-workout. YOU.
So the next time you see an ad for something or someone tries to sell you something that is “going to make you successful”, I want you to remember that it isn’t true. That product isn’t going to change your life or make you successful. Only you can do that. And you CAN do that. You have the fire inside of you to make any change that you want.
And if you’ve found that inner flame and are ready to take off running towards your goals but want to drink a shake each day as you do it, great! No problem. As long as you’re aware that YOU are the one and only key to your success, you’re on the right path.
