I almost hate to call it that.. a fitness journey. That implies that it has an end, right? I’ve been referring to my own life as having a fitness journey but I want to take that back. This isn’t a journey that I’m on because I don’t have an end point. I am making a lifestyle change that I will sustain for the rest of my life! (I guess the journey has an end.. technically).
When I first decided I wanted to make this change, I had absolutely NO idea how I was going to do it. There are a million different products and programs out there that are going to tell you that theirs is what is going to work for you (I’m a Beachbody coach and I love these programs so much, but I understand they’re not for everyone). But the thing is, it’s not a program or product that’s going to change your life. It’s YOU that’s going to change your life. You have to put in the work every. single. day. Read that again. Every. single. day.
Are you going to have off days? Sure. Are you going to skip a workout sometimes or have a day where all you eat is pizza and cake? (yes, i do this.) Sure you are! But that’s why it’s a lifestyle. Not a diet, not a fad. It’s something that you can sustain for a long period of time or hopefully your whole life!
Consistency is key. Are you starting from scratch? Have you not done a sit up in ten years but are ready to start now? Do 5 sit ups. That’s it. Just 5. But do that every single day. Do that every single day for a month and see what happens. Those 5 sit ups are going to feel pretty easy. Soon you’ll be doing 10 and then 15 and eventually, you’ll find that you can do 50 sit ups and that’s just a small part of your workout.
Changing your health and fitness is a slowwwww process. Which can be frustrating. We’re human. We tend to like immediate results. Instant gratification. That’s why fat burning pills and drinks are a thing. People want that quick fix. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix. But fortunately, there is a fix. It requires hard work and dedication, but you can do it. I know you can. You just have to want it.
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Just start off with some sit ups, push ups, squats, jumping jacks. You don’t even need any equipment. Heck, go for a run. Running is what jump started me on this “journey.” I randomly started training for a 5k and got myself into some kick butt shape. It sure didn’t happen quick. It took me 10 weeks and when I started I couldn’t run more than 2 minutes straight. But after those 10 weeks I ran 3.2 miles without stopping, and I could have kept going. But I ran and worked out 5 days a week, every single week, for 10 weeks. No exceptions.
What you can do when you really put your mind to it (cliche, I know) is truly AMAZING. If you need some advice on where to start with this, contact me! If you’re interested in learning how to start training for a 5k, contact me! (I also have my running program week by week saved to my highlights on Instagram). I am absolutely not here to promote my coaching business, however, if you’re wanting to talk to me about how to get started with Beachbody home workouts, I’d love to talk to you about that too!
Whatever you decide to do for your health is a good move. You can do this.
This is literally what I started with to workout. A mat, water jug, and a pair of 10 pound weighs. I’ll link everything below! *Dumbbells are from Walmart and are currently out of stock 🙁 I was going to link some from Amazon, but I don’t want to suggest anything I haven’t personally used.
